Habitat for Humanity

General Description – The building of affordable homes through Habitat for Humanity has been a major mission project of Faith United Methodist Church for many years. Working with other churches on the eastside in a coalition format we have helped to fund and build seven homes in the last eleven years. Our primary funding source is a community-wide “garage sale” held at the church each year in September. In addition church members may attend Habitat fundraisers or purchase Habitat-related items through the alternative gifting program held each Christmas season as a part of Faith’s funding.

Volunteer Opportunities – Church members 16 years and older may work at a Habitat work site on the scheduled coalition work day each month. This is currently the 3rd Saturday of the month. In addition, opportunities during the week are also available, particularly for retirees. No building skills or tools are required although volunteers with some experience are particularly welcome.

The annual Habitat “garage sale” requires a large number of volunteers. Because of the magnitude of this effort, a detailed description of these needs and of the event itself, see below for details or visit http://habitatgaragesale.org.
