Faith UMC Sanctuary Renovation 2026

This summer, Faith UMC will be renovating our worship space to be more accessible, functional, and beautiful! Read below to learn more about why, what, and how we are doing this renovation.
And join us for an informational meeting on May 20th at 7 pm!

Why:

Accessibility & Inclusion

We say "all are welcome" but our architecture tells a different story. Without accessibility ramps, our sanctuary signals to those with mobility needs are not welcome to preach, lead, read scripture, serve communion, or sing in the choir. Rebuilding our music loft and installing ramps reflects our commitment to welcome and inclusion of all people and abilities.

Function & efficiency

Our lighting is faulty, outdated, and performing poorly. We are borrowing extra lighting that presents a tripping hazard in the side aisles. It is time to clean up and replace our currently lighting with a lighting system that is efficient, safe, and more effective.

Beauty & attention to God

Churches have always used architecture and art to draw our attention to God. Our church is no different! In this renovation, we will highlight the cross and windows by moving other visual elements away from the chancel and framing the chancel in wood -- giving a nod to our location in the PNW.

What:

  • New Choir Loft platform and accessibility ramps
  • Wood flooring on Chancel
  • Wood paneling at Chancel
  • New carpeting throughout Sanctuary
  • New paint on walls, ceilings, and beams in Sanctuary
  • New spot lighting at Chancel and Choir Loft
  • New pendant lights in Sanctuary
  • New acoustic panels and lighting at Choir Loft
  • New projectors and screens in Sanctuary
  • New carpet in Narthex
  • New paint in Narthex

How:

Costs & Funding

Estimated total cost: $450k-$500k

$420k is already funded by previous building improvement campaigns and large undesignated gifts.
Current fundraising goal of $80,000 (approx. $575 per household) ensures that no money is diverted from ministries or missions.

Timeline

Construction begins June 15th and will last 8 to 10 weeks.
We will be worship on Sundays at 9 am & 10:30 am in front of the main doors under a large event tent that seats 95 ppl. The 10:30 am service will continue to be live streamed online.
We plan to be back in the sanctuary at the end of August with a celebration/dedication in early September.
